The University of Vermont Press is excited to announce the forthcoming publication of five inaugural titles in its Janus Debates book series. Designed and written for students and scholars alike, books in the series present succinct but informed cases for and against a given, and often controversial, issue. Each author argues their position in a 10,000-word essay, then responds to their co-author in a 5,000-word essay. The result is a readable, accessible introduction to issues that are often in the headlines but are just as often misunderstood. The goal of the series is to move past the misinformation, contentious language, and specious reasoning that often define modern discourse in the news and on social media, and instead present two sides of a debate with fairness, reason, and clarity.
